(p.1) 1 Boyhood
Charles the Second

Ronald Hutton

Oxford University Press

This chapter discusses the childhood of Prince Charles, who was born on May 29, 1630. Historians who have previously studied and examined this period in the prince's life have made a number of comments over the years. These comments about Prince Charles's childhood can be lumped into three categories: those preoccupied with his relation to political affairs, those concerned with the external trappings of an heir to the throne during the age of baroque monarchy, and those upon his physical and mental characteristics.

Keywords:   childhood, Prince Charles, historians, categories, comments, political affairs, heir to the throne, baroque monarchy, characteristics
