Sīdī Mahmūd was a historical figure in Aïr. His life conforms to patterns of sanctity within the Saharan and in the Maghribī, Islamic Tradition. This conclusion discusses the historicity of Sīdī Mahmūd and the element of the miraculous in his personality. It also highlights his legacy to the Sūfīsm of the southern Saharan regions.
