War, Hunger, and Displacement: VOLUME 1

Oxford University Press

This chapter offers a critique of the way that environmental degradation has become incorporated into the international discourse on conflict. It discusses the many political and economic causes of complex humanitarian emergencies and evaluates where environmental phenomena fit in. It attempts to provide an alternative framework for studying the environmental causes of humanitarian emergencies by displacing the focus off environment and focusing on environmental value.
