This introductory chapter explains the coverage of this book, which is about the vulnerable witness and the adversarial process in the criminal justice system in Great Britain. This book aims to demonstrate the significant limitations of accommodation approach to the problems facing vulnerable and intimidated witnesses and discusses the relevant provisions of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act (YJCEA) 1999. It also provides commentaries on the issues concerning the principle of orality, right to a fair trial, and the Dutch trial process.
