A theory of spatial understanding and development
This chapter proposes a theory of spatial representation which it states best explains the findings accumulated at present. The chapter calls in the ‘Convergent Active Processing in Interrelated Networks’ (CAPIN) model. Three main strands of evidence are considered in this chapter. One concerns the relation between the modalities in spatial coding. The second looks at factors in development. The third considers the nature of coding in the total absence of vision. This chapter is laid out in that order to be able to set out the theory.
