(p.211) Introduction
Brain, Perception, Memory

Johan J. Bolhuis

Oxford University Press

In this part of the book, the neural mechanisms of learning and memory are analyzed at the systems level. Here, many chapters investigate learning and memory at different levels of analysis, ranging from cognitive systems to molecular changes at the level of the synapse. First, this part of the book discusses the role of the cerebellum, rain systems, and the regulation of memory consolidation. It also presents a thorough review of the brain mechanisms underlying the modulation of memory consolidation. It gives a striking account of the models of memory as well. Furthermore, it reviews some recent work on human imaging of memory. Finally, the last chapter of this part of the book is concerned with arguably the most advanced state of cognition, consciousness.
