Linking biophysics to computation
This chapter is about linking biophysics to computation. While the properties of dendritic voltage-gated currents in vertebrate neurons have recently received considerable (and renewed) attention, their potential functions for circuit integration and behavior remain largely speculative. This chapter summarizes results obtained from insect neurons. In such systems, the functional link between the particular biophysical properties of dendrites and the specific computations performed by them can often be made, providing an important explanatory bridge between different levels of analysis.
