There are many social phenomena that differ from diffusion like epidemics. Epidemic models are limited in that they treat the relationships between all pairs of agents as equal, not accounting for potential effects of individual heterogeneity on the decision to adopt a behavior or idea or interpersonal relationships. This chapter considers a model of diffusion where an agent’s behavior is the results of her deliberate choice. Each agent has a threshold that determines the proportion of neighbor agents required to activate. Such a model can be also applied to study the diffusion of innovation, cascading failure or a chain of bankruptcy.
