The Syntax of Old Romanian

Raluca Brăescu

Oxford University Press

This chapter presents the syntax of the adjective in OR. The following problems are discussed: the definiteness agreement patterns, marking of agreement with the head noun, postnominal and prenominal adjectival complementation (the variation of the adjectival phrases with direct object, indirect object, genitival complement or prepositional object). An important aspect is word order of qualifying and relative adjectival modifiers, including the serialization of adjectives. The last part of the chapter is devoted to OR degree configurations (comparative and superlative adjectival constructions with analytic means).

Keywords:   adjective, agreement, complementation, adjectival modifier, adjective serialization, degree configuration
