This chapter discusses the relationship of life processes to various time scales associated with the solar model. This model is based on our solar system and is one for which there is now increasing evidence for as occurring commonly throughout the universe. Starting with a comparison of evolutionary time scales with the origin of the solar system, the chapter goes on to discuss the solar model (our planetary system), how the life spans of organisms is observed to depend on their metabolic rates and other parameters, chronobiology (the study of life process cycles as influenced by terrestrial factors such as tides and the seasons), and biological time travel.

Keywords:   life, evolution, solar model, lifetimes, metabolic rate, chronobiology, tides, seasons, biological time travel
