Saturation characteristics and single-frequency operation of gas lasers
Saturation characteristics and single-frequency operation of gas lasers
This chapter derives expressions for the gain required to achieve optical oscillation in a cavity with known losses. The effect of stimulated transitions on the inversion density is considered. Gain saturation in homogeneous and homogeneously broadened transitions, the Lamb dip, saturated absorption spectroscopy, frequency stabilization of gas lasers, and measurements of the velocity of light are discussed.
Keywords: saturation, Lamb dip, saturated absorption spectroscopy, single-frequency operation, frequency stabilization, velocity of light
