This chapter discusses the principles of tunable dye lasers and the construction of some typical systems. Applications of these devices to atomic saturated absorption spectroscopy, the measurement of the fine structure of atomic hydrogen, and the Rydberg constant are explained. Stimulated two-photon absorption spectroscopy and measurements of the Lamb shift in atomic hydrogen are discussed.
