This chapter derives the transition probabilities for magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole radiation, which are important for understanding gaseous nebulae, the earth's aurora and emission from the solar corona. Two-photon radiative decay of hydrogenic systems and forbidden transitions in helium-like systems are also discussed. Comparisons between theory and experiment are described, including collision processes involving metastable atoms.
