This chapter discusses the importance of Eoin O'Duffy's life story by providing insights into the diverse aspects of modern Ireland. One historian considered O'Duffy as the classic example of a politician who worked his way to public prominence through involvement in the organisational activities of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). O'Duffy also exemplified the puritanical ethos which played an important role in the development of modern Ireland and he represented an extreme manifestation of a mindset that existed more broadly in inter-war Ireland, and which is often found among other post-revolutionary élites.
