This chapter contextualises the five partners model of global competitiveness in the Scottish electronics setting, specifically the country’s information systems, semiconductors, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and software programming (for medical and military services). Included in the discussions are the types of flagship linkages, usually the long-term management type, which can be seen between private organisations or between a private institution and an educational department or government agency. Leading flagship firms in Scotland are huge foreign-owned corporations (most dominantly US-based), which decided to establish connections with Scottish companies because of its strategic location for EU membership and relatively cheaper skilled labour force. Among the European countries, the Scottish electronics group has the competitive advantage in terms of its wage system and hardware production arrangements; but, it is still faced with software assembly and marketing difficulties.
