The Measure of Multitude

Peter Biller

Oxford University Press

This chapter focuses on commentators' reactions to the discussion of marriage, in particular ideal ages of marriage, in book 7 of Artistotle's Politics. It considers what may have shaped commentators' awareness of marriage-ages in their Europe, and, beyond this, what these realities were — or rather, what modern scholarship has conjecturally reconstructed.
