The Wealth of Talent
The Wealth of Talent
This chapter challenges the typical assumptions about the war for talent (WfT). Although it is believed that organizations want to make the most of the talents of their employees, more resources are being used on the small group of employees that are intended for senior and executive manager positions. A number of companies still have not fully embraced what it means to have attained the requirements of knowledge-driven productivity. What organizations should be concerned about is how to educate, select, and develop the wealth of talent entering the job market. This chapter presents and analyses four assumptions about the WfT regarding such notions as competitive advantage, talent as a commodity, techniques in recruiting star performers, and the diversification of talent in companies.
