The Mythology of Horses in India 1
This chapter explores the history of the mythology of horses in India. It looks at the horse as a charismatic symbol in Hinduism and the paradox of the Hindu horse. It first discusses the uses of the horse in ancient India and the role of Muslims as good-and-evil foreigners in the country’s horse mythologies. It then examines Rudyard Kipling’s immortalization of the white stallion in his novel Kim.
