Covering the years 1980 to 2002, this chapter deals with McIntire’s loss of influence in his last years. Covered are his continued efforts at exerting his authority over the Moral Majority, his attempts at influencing the Reagan and Bush administrations on religious freedom issues and on abortion, and his public discourse on the Soviet Union up to and beyond the ending of the Cold War, his campaign against sanctions on South Africa, and his last years’ push for a Bible-based Middle East peace plan. McIntire’s efforts at mending relations with the separatist fundamentalist and some new evangelical leaders whom he had alienated over the years receive attention as well, as does the decline and eventual bankruptcy of all of his institutions.
