This chapter continues the exploration of the importance of family-related behavior to racial ideology. Additionally, the chapter continues the examination of structural opportunities with regard to family-related behavior among African Americans. Chapter 2 introduces class differences among African Americans in terms of marriage and family practices and suggests that reliance on women’s labor force participation outside of the home may be related to more egalitarian marriages among African Americans.
