Human Freedom and Rights

Human Freedom and Rights

Western Framework of Thought*

(p.22) 6 Human Freedom and Rights
Chaturvedi Badrinath

Tulsi Badrinath

Oxford University Press

In asserting the supremacy of Reason as the ordering principle of life, law, and, thus, the state, it had to be completely separated from the church and its control. Badrinath, in this essay, says that Philosophy, separated from the faith, would hereafter embark on its own journey. The idea of morality had to be removed from its religious connection. In this framework of thought where one thing is separated from the other, the natural unity of life is broken, on principle. The individual whose rights are sought to be protected and thereby his freedom, is thus the fragmented man, removed from his self. Badrinath claims that the rights are all right but it is the framework in which they are asserted that is wrong.
