Oedipus’s story is a detective fiction. We have clues; we go on to cure the illness or solve the crime. According to Freud, psychoanalysis cures the Oedipus complex. According to Ernest Jones, Oedipus suffered from the Oedipus complex and so did Hamlet. Freud became Oedipal seeing his mother undress in a train, as a child. Freud’s patients were nineteenth-century upper-class men and women from Vienna; so it is a small sample. Hoshang and his likes cure their own Oedipus complex by writing. Shakespeare’s genius goes beyond Jones’ complexes imposed on Hamlet. Hamlet is about world negation and world pain.
