This chapter focuses on the development of the Fundamentalist movement and the influences that inspired its proponents and the effects it had on later movements. Various interpretations have been given to Fundamentalism in the past. Whereas before it known as an uneducated and anti-intellectual position it quickly progressed into a respectable movement attributed with intellectual heritage and theological motivation. The beginnings of the Fundamentalist movement were brought about by a coalition created among various movements which were against the growing theological modernist thought. According to Marsden one of the most important roots of Fundamentalism was the revivalist heritage in 19th-century England and America.
