R. J. W. Evans

This chapter presents an essay on the cultural and political relationships and linkages between Hungary and Germany during the 19th century. It chronicles relevant events starting with the last decade of the Old Empire, when Josephinism created controversial notions of statehood and Aufklarung created a new intellectual climate. It explains that the two sides were brought together by liberal and national ideas, which culminated in the entente cordiale between the Frankfurt assembly and the Hungarian parliamentary government in 1848.
