Church and State
Church and State
This chapter first looks into the recent European history to examine the horror of the removal of liberty, and of religious freedom, it examines the persecution of churches and believers. The second section looks into state support and control on churches. The idea that clergy are employees of the State, and have a special responsibility to their employer are worrying. It follows that this financial embrace may put shackles on church interest. The third section argues that it is not tolerant to judge another's beliefs as false. Reference to identity and tradition raises the question of whether any State should be identified with a national Church. The last section looks into the meaning of ‘Establishment’ of a Church.
