Rights and Freedoms
The first section of the chapter examines the foundation of many charters of rights, including the European Convention on Human Rights. The universality suggests a metaphysical view encompassing all human beings, whatever the contingent political facts may be given at any time. The second part of the chapter discusses the importance of toleration. The third section answers the question ‘Why are we all equal? ’ and examines the conception of a basic natural equity. The fourth section looks at the primacy of an individual. It notes that what matters is the equality of the individuals.
