This chapter discusses providing care before and after death. It is designed to guide health professionals to care for family and friends as the death of a loved one approaches, and to provide support immediately after the death. It deals with the events of bereavement and anticipatory grief and looks at the current risk management strategies. The latter half of the chapter focuses on preparing the family for the imminent death, saying goodbye, and viewing the dead. The chapter also discusses organ or tissue donation, the last offices done on a deceased patient, and the different medical and legal issues.
