This chapter develops a generalized Chapman–Enskog method (GCE method), which is valid whatever the regime may be, in equilibrium or not. The first order solutions are modified and include WNE and SNE solutions. Applications are then proposed for vibrationally relaxing gases and for reactive gas mixtures. General expressions for transport terms and conservation equations are obtained, and a general method for describing all types of non-equilibrium flows is proposed. Particular situations or processes are also examined such as the boundary conditions for the Boltzmann equation (accommodation), free molecular flows, and hypersonic regimes. Finally, the approximate BGK method and the computational DSMC method are briefly described.
