Measurement and Understanding from an Interdisciplinary Perspective
This chapter introduces the book. Section 1.2 addresses the issue of how to bring time into the measurement of poverty and into the analysis of trajectories in and out of poverty. Section 1.3 compares qualitative and quantitative approaches and addresses the issue of cross-disciplinarity. Section 1.4 presents an overview of the chapters in the book. Section 1.5 concludes by highlighting areas where we believe future research on poverty dynamics should focus.
