Marriage and Revolution

That this was a relatively loveless marriage of reason is an impression fostered by Mme Roland's memoirs, written later in changed circumstances. This chapter uses unpublished correspondence to show that their union was an affectionate and physical one. It describes their first year of marriage in Paris, before settling in Amiens, and introduces long-term friends Louis Bosc and François Lanthenas. The couple visits Roland's Beaujolais family, with whom they are reconciled.
