Chapter 15 ‘Given and New Information in Spatial Statements’ by Robin Hörnig and Thomas Weskott investigates the given‐new partitioning in (German) spatial statements with unmarked and marked word order. Given‐new and poset licensing are examined as explanations of the remarkably good comprehensibility of marked sentences with an appropriate partitioning. It is proposed that word order optimizes partitioning for new and given locata.
