This chapter considers the role of the music therapist with parents by focusing on the following topics: original reasons for coming to music therapy; initial uncertainty; rejoicing in their child's enjoyment of the music; non-verbal interactions; containing and addressing difficult behaviours; and working in partnership with parents. It looks specifically at parents' perceptions of being in music therapy sessions with their children and tries to determine the role of music therapists with parents who are in the room with them.
