This concluding chapter returns to the concept of the translator-as-narrator, summarizing the many different types of translator statements explored in the volume. It argues that the strategies and methodologies of writing both classical translation and contemporary poetry are interdependent and interlinked. In addition, if classical translation presents an unique case in poetry translation, then, in return, the classical poetry translator is afforded more creative freedom to approach disputed and incomplete texts, giving the lie to the concept that such translation is a second-rate substitute for the original Greek or Latin texts. Finally, it argues for more interaction between classical scholarship and creative work, offering possible ways forward for both fields.
