The Spirit‐people, pneumatikoi, were at the root of most, if not all, the problems with which Paul deals in 1 Cor. Paul's insensitive response only served to harden their opposition. Thus they were still active a year later when he wrote 2 Cor, in which traces of the Spirit‐people can be detected.
