Duff on Attempts

Duff on Attempts

(p.215) 13 Duff on Attempts
Crime, Punishment, and Responsibility

Larry Alexander

Oxford University Press

There is hardly any topic within the vast domain of crime and punishment on which Antony Duff has not commented, or at least commented with great intelligence. Among the doctrinal precincts of criminal law, however, there is only one domain to which Duff has devoted an entire book, and that is the law of attempts. This chapter comments on Duff's elaboration and criticisms of the law of attempts. It contrasts Duff's ideas about attempts with an interpretation of orthodox doctrine, particularly as it is reflected in the Model Penal Code. It then presents views about attempts, which differ from both the orthodox doctrine and Duff's views.
