Introduction
Introduction
Since this volume is about the external influences on English, there is no discussion of the Indo‐European heritage per se. Nevertheless, as a matter of contextualization, the place of English in the Germanic branch of Indo‐European is discussed, along with other Germanic languages and non‐Germanic influences. Because of early Celtic influence on English, there is also a discussion of the members of the Celtic family and their properties to identify the specific source(s) of influence.
Keywords: English, Indo-European heritage, Celtic, Germanic, Scandinavian
