Abstract

D’Costa breaks fresh ground in this study of the Second Vatican Council’s doctrines on other religions, especially Judaism and Islam. This study focuses exclusively on the doctrinal foundations found in Lumen Gentium 16 that will serve Catholicism in the twenty-first century. First, D’Costa provides a map outlining different hermeneutical approaches to the Council. He synthesizes their strengths and provides a critique of their weaknesses.
