The introduction discusses the historiographical background to the subject, and the nature of the various types of primary sources which have been used. These include the personal letters and diaries of leading figures, including all five of the Party Leaders, and a wide range of sources from the Conservative Party organisation itself, both nationally and regionally from the Conservative Party Archive, and locally from many individual constituencies, from Truro to Inverness.
