Two of Ørsted's daughters are married. Ørsted receives order from the King of Prussia and is invited to Berlin. Humboldt entertains him with stories from his expeditions. Ørsted dines at Sanssouci and Neues Palais and meets King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Tieck's performance of Euripides's tragedy Medea and Holberg's comedy Don Ranudo are debated. Ørsted visits the Prussian Gewerbeschule, which is compared to his Polytechnic Institute, the main difference being the well-equipped workshops in Berlin. Ørsted seems to have developed into a kind of fogey in old age. Ørsted travels by railway to see Weber in Leipzig, and Dahl and Carus in Dresden.
