This introductory chapter begins with a brief discussion of the origins of a united Europe, European tort law, and international tort law. It then sets out the aim and focus of the book, namely to introduce the main features of European tort law, focusing on the national tort law systems of France, Germany, and England. The chapter also discusses comparative law and this is followed by a description of the structure and organization of the book.
