It describes its three purposes: historical retrieval of the Dhufar revolution, revision of modern Omani history, and contextualisation of local events in a manner that accounts for their global and regional interconnections. A review of the literature on Oman is provided and the gaps in the literature are identified. A section on terminology is also included, in which broader theories are engaged, and the revolutionary character of the events that unfolded in Dhufar between 1965 and 1976 is emphasised.
