The epilogue is an attempt to summarize and assess Trendelenburg’s achievement. I argue that Trendelenburg’s attempt to revive the organic worldview did not succeed in the light of its own criterion: keeping pace with the new empirical sciences. Trendelenburg’s worldview involved teleology, which had been questioned by the rise of Darwinism. Yet Trendelenburg deserves credit for his attempt to preserve the classical legacy in philosophy.
