Instituting a Homeric French King
This chapter analyzes how, in the early years of King François I’s reign, armed with Homer’s heroes and the traditions of Homeric wisdom in particular, the humanist Guillaume Budé was determined to ensure that François became worthy of a “poème héroïque.”
