This chapter reviews current research on the role of the family in fostering (or hindering) psychosocial development among sexual-minority adolescents and young adults. It seeks to understand the dynamic, changing interplay between youths and their family members as they all undergo different adaptational challenges as part of the youths' identity development and psychosocial adjustment, and how family-level variables interact with individual-level variables to shape the entire family's trajectory of growth and development.

Keywords:   family, psychosocial development, sexual-minority adolescents, adults, identity development, psychosocial adjustment
