(p.187) 8 Conclusion
The Political Psychology of Globalization

Catarina Kinnvall

Paul Nesbitt-Larking

Oxford University Press

Chapter 8 concludes the book with a review of the principal theoretical and empirical findings of the book. These are further brought together in a consideration of how a dialectical conception of identity as socially conditioned practice can facilitate the promotion of policy options that serve both the needs of individuals in liberal democratic societies and at the same time offer the fullest and richest acknowledgments of the range of social identities that are emerging among Muslims as they continue to work and live within Western polities. Overall, the claim is made that the most significant contribution of the book is to be found in its attempts to bring together meaningfully a diverse range of sources on identity, multiculturalism, globalization, and citizenship.
