The chapter provides a summary of the scientific literature on the effects of climate change and coral mortality on fish populations, communities. and reef fisheries. A more detailed evaluation of the 1998 impacts across the Western Indian Ocean is also presented. Evidence for considerable ecological changes is accumulating that will ultimately influence fisheries catches in terms of species composition and yields. The effects of reducing fish biomass on the ecology of the coral reefs are evident throughout the region
