Why a Focus on Teaching Day?
This chapter focuses on “the new era” of the Organization of American Historians (OAH) when history teaching became a central concern. It looks closely at one sign of change: the Focus on Teaching Day, arguing that it emerged from both a reform movement to encourage academically sound and creative history teaching and the OAH leadership's desire to recruit a new pool of members.
