This chapter discusses Blitzstein’s years stationed in London during World War II as an entertainment specialist for the Army, including the commission of the Airborne Symphony, his coaching of the Negro Army Chorus, his musical directorship of the American Broadcasting System, and his front-line collecting of French resistance songs in 1944 for the Garson Kanin-Carol Reed documentary, The True Glory. It also covers more personal aspects of his years in London, including his reaction to various films, plays, and music as well as to political events.
