This chapter discusses Blitzstein’s testimony before an executive session held by the House Committee on Un-American Activities in 1958, and his last completed dramatic work, Juno, a musical adaptation of Sean O’Casey’s Juno and the Paycock undertaken with Joseph Stein. Starring Shirley Booth and Melvyn Douglas, with choreography by Agnes de Mille, the show had a stormy tryout period in Washington and Boston, before arriving on Broadway, where it played for only sixteen performances. The chapter concludes with a consideration of subsequent revivals and adaptations of the show.
