Contempt, Racism, and Civility's Limits
This chapter offers an account of contempt’s role in antiblack racism. It is argued that the best way to answer the racist’s inapt contempt is by responding with apt counter-contempt. Using race-based contempt as an illustrative example, the nature of civility and its limits are explored.
